Sitting down to write this post sorta fills like a dream… you know those things you always want to do but they seem so far off or really just unrealistic?! Well, shooting a wedding at Big Spring Farm has been on my bucket list for a while! Living in Raleigh (at the time – now, Asheville) I wasn’t sure how to gain attraction for Virginia weddings! It wasn’t that I wanted to shoot there all the time – but occasionally would be great!! Well, turns out Virginia is a great halfway point for Ashley and Scott’s families! Ashley and Scott live in Cary and their family is up North. I’m telling you this because I want you to know that those dreams you think are unrealistic – they can happen!! Ashley and Scott wanted a local photographer to the RDU area for their engagements, etc. Lucky for me, they asked me to travel to Big Spring Farm in Lexington, VA for their wedding! You just never know when things will work out so seamlessly! Capturing a wedding at this venue was just as wonderful as I pictured in my head for so long! Big Spring Farm is breathtaking and Ashley and Scott are absolutely THE sweetest and were full of so much joy the entire day!!
Upon arriving, extra early, we took a little tour around the entire property. I knew I would have to be selective with my portrait locations because – let me tell you – the options are ENDLESS! If only I had hours upon hours of portrait time! Luckily, Ashley loves photos as much as I do and we were able to do a sunset session in addition to regular portrait time!! They may or may not have let me sit on their car for some of the sunset portraits ;)!!
Some of my favorite moments from the day:
The ceremony. Scott and Ashley wrote their own vows filled with so much love and the sweetest promises. Scott’s tears and the way he looked into Ashley’s eyes during his vows. Priceless. Both parents were so proud of Ashley and Scott and the ceremony was full of so much love and support for their new marriage. Upon exiting some of their friends held up 3 signs “Make Moves Son” – I later heard the story behind the signs. They also held up a sign that said “Make Moves Son” when they were trying to get Scott to talk to Ashley for the first time at a game. AND now they are MARRIED!! Ashley and Scott were very surprised upon exiting the ceremony and couldn’t stop laughing!
Portrait time! Ahhh, THE BEST! The large open fields, pond, tall trees. All made for the most incredible backdrops! The weather called for rain all week and yet again, we had a beautiful day!
The day continued with the most relaxed and cozy reception. Guests filled the inside and outside of the barn – having drinks, catching up and playing corn hole. Ashley’s Mom and Dad gave the most heartfelt toasts and the night continued with lots of dancing and a group shot just outside the barn that I LOVED! I hope the group shots continue to be a tradition at weddings! Just before sunset we snuck away with Ashley and Scott to an open field overlooking the mountains and captured some of my favorite portraits from the day!! THIS is why I love sunset portrait times and think it’s ALWAYS worth it. It only takes 15-20 minutes and nothing beats that golden hour!!
Scott and Ashley, you two are perfect for one another. We have never felt more welcomed and loved! THANK YOU for sharing your day with us and allowing us the opportunity to capture such a glorious day. We love y’all!!
